What is waste ?
A materials which are usually useless and unwanted are called waste.
Dead and decaying remains of plants and animals by products of metabolic activity of plants and animals useless materials to stores, offices, restaurants, industries, pesticides, herbicides sprayed on agricultural land, tannery effluents, etc.
What are the sources of waste ?
Domestic waste
The materials discarded by human beings in their day to day activities are considered as domestic wastes. Flow chart of domestic wastes shown below :
these wastes may be classified into the following types :
1. Ashes
2.Food wastes
3.Plastic bags
4.Human excreta
5.Rubbish
Ashes
Residue left over from coke , the burning of wood, coal, etc. or from partially burnt materials.
Food waste
The animal, fruit or vegetable residues resulting from preparation, the handling, cooking, and eating of food.
Plastic bags
Used plastic bags made of synthetic materials are often thrown away.
Human excreta
Any product of metabolism that is not needed for further metabolism processes and is excreted from the body is termed excreta.
Common waste products include nitrogenous compounds waste as urea and ammonia.
Rubbish
Waste materials such as paper cardboard, plastics, rubbers, glass, broken utensils, wood furniture, etc.
